NOTICE OF MEDICAL PRIVACY PRACTICES

THIS NOTICE DESCRIBES HOW MEDICAL INFORMATION ABOUT YOU MAY BE USED AND DISCLOSED.

We are required by law to:

a.     Make sure that medical information that identifies you is kept private

b.    Display this notice of our legal duties and privacy practices with respect to medical information about you on our web site; and follow the terms on the notice that is currently in effect.

How We Collect Information About You: Macon County Enhanced 9-1-1 collects data regarding your medical condition during 9-1-1 emergency calls or by other means of communication for either emergency or non-emergency dispatch of units that respond to medical calls.

What We Do Not Do With Your Information: Information about your medical conditions and care that you provide to our agency on the phone directly or indirectly given to us, is held in strictest confidence. We do not release patient information that is considered confidential except as provided by law.

How We Do Use Your Information: Medical information obtained is only used as is reasonably necessary to dispatch units that respond to medical calls.

We may release medical information if asked to do so by a law enforcement official:

a.     In response to a court order, subpoena, warrant, summons or similar process

b.    To identify or locate a suspect, fugitive, material witness, or missing person

c.     About the victim of a crime if, under certain limited circumstances, we are unable to obtain the person’s agreement

d.    About a death we believe may be the result of criminal conduct

e.    In emergency circumstances to report a crime; the location of the crime or victims; or the identity, description or location of the person who committed the crime.

We may release medical information to a coroner or medical examiner.  This may be necessary, for example, to identify a deceased person or determine a cause of death.

Your non-medical information can be given to legal authorities including police, investigators, courts, and/or attorneys or other legal professionals, as well as any other information as permitted by law.
